12,500 GOLD WITH BASTION OF TWILIGHT

Do you have a level 90, decent gear, and know how to play your class? Good! Then read on and let's make over TEN THOUSAND gold per hour in Bastion of Twilight, the level 85 Cataclysm raid.

This method has actually been around for a while, and is known as BoE farming, but with the new change where you can run 10 instances in an hour, this run is particularly profitable. While most dungeons take more about 10 minutes to clear once you run back to the entrance, this one is just one room and is a very quick in-an-out so you can kill everything and reset it all to get the full 10 runs. As far as strategy goes, we're going to go to Twilight Highlands, enter the raid, and just clear the first room of mobs and hope that we get some good epic drops (and a boatload of Embersilk Cloth). The cheaper items like the trinkets sell for around 500 and more expensive transmog items sell for 2500g on most servers because they're amazing and no one really goes out here much anymore. Oh, and sometimes level 85s use these for their stats.

For my test I ran the dungeon for a full hour. The room consists of 48 total mobs: 4 stationary up front, two lines of 5 patrolling mobs, and four rings of 8 rogue-caster...things. They all have between 400k and 1.5 million health and melee for about 15-30k so they're not too bad but if you pull the whole room, just be ready. I recommend killing one group at a time. Even slow and steady, a pack at a time, one run is over in 4 minutes. Oh, and there are two mobs in the hallway that have a double chance of dropping epics. Kill those before you leave.

Dat Second Wind
Over the course of one hour I was able to clear the room 8 times. Since I was testing several different pulling strategies and died (embarrassingly) about 20 times in the process, I see no reason why you couldn't make 10 runs. Still, a test is a test so we'll stick with my results and I won't extrapolate. I gathered 5 epics and 30 stacks of Embersilk Cloth. You can expect more if you're a tailor and have Northern Cloth Scavaging.

Possible Loot
499 g - Bracers of the Dark Pool
   733 g - Unheeded Warning
   866 g - Phase-Twister Leggings
1,597 g - Carbine Crossfire
1,975 g - Tsanga's Helm
2,897 g - Soul Blade
9379 g - Heaving Plates of Protection
2526 g average (1722 excluding high/low)
Loot from Test
   733 g - Unheeded Warning
1,597 g - Carbine Crossfire
2,264 g - Chelly's Staff of Dark Mending
2,897 g - Soul Blade
2,897 g - Soul Blade
1,380 g - 30 Stacks Embersilk Cloth @46g/stack
1,000 g - Greens/DEs/Gold drops
Total
12,768 g
That's all for this run. Although we won't get a good measure of an average drop rate until we get ~30 epics, we've gotten enough to start getting an idea. If 5 drops/400 kills holds true, you should get 1 more Epic if you do 2 more clears to get your 10/hour. Although, why stop at just 1 hour? This would add an additional (est) 2,500 g to your total, bringing the value of this dungeon per hour up to 15,000g. SO GET TO IT! Farm your heart out. :D

    1. lol, short answer? A lot.

Long answer. Bartender4 for bars. Mistra's Diablo Orbs for the health and rage bars (those are new, I used to use Comergy and still prefer that I think although this looks AWESOME and works with my whole "circle" theme.) For the circle buttons, I use Masque: Renaitre, which requires the base addon Masque. To move a few basic items around like the buffs and debuffs, I have MoveAnything. SexyMap for the Sexy Map. It can do a lot more, but I like the very basic look and usually have it disabled or the HUD map up. Prat3.0 for chat. TidyPlates for nameplates, which I consider part of UI. VuhDo with aluminum bars for Raidframes. Weakauras for a few cooldown resets. (If you look on the Heroic Seigecrafter video you'll see how I use this for Defensive stance, Colossus Smash, and my recklessness/banner/avatar/bloodbath/trinkets/potions.)

Think that's it, or at least the important stuff. I have a few raiding specific ones, but I don't think you care about those.

  2. As a quick note, and to answer someone from Twitter, the potion of treasure finding does not seem to drop Treasure Boxes from these mobs.

    1. Potion of Treasure Finding does work. Tested last ngiht. No epics over 15 resets though. RNG makes this inefficient.

    2. Potion of Luck
      Item Level 90
Use: Allows you to sometimes find extra treasure from monsters in Pandaria. Lasts 20 min.

I didn't know the Bastion of Twilight is in Pandaria.
Well, gold-making guru knows better obviously...

    3. Woah, no epics over 15 resets is just weird. A little beyond RNG and beyond what I've heard from anyone else running this. Let me test and see if there was some kind of a hotfix or something. Mayyybe you were just unlucky but each mob has a 1.1 - 2.0% chance to drop each epic and you killed 50x15=750 mobs. It's ridiculously unlikely that you wouldn't get at least one drop. I'll check it out.

Sorry to point this out to you, but if you scroll up, you'll see that we're discussing the potion of Treasure Finding and not the Potion of Luck. Luck gives a Pandaria buff, while Treasure Finding gives a Cata buff. Thanks for contributing to the conversation though! I like people keeping us on our toes. :)

    1. While I appreciate you not cussing or anything, I don't appreciate being called a liar. A better way of getting the results you're looking for would have been to say something along the lines of "Hey, that seems like a lot for something from almost 2 expansions ago. Do you have a screenshot to prove it will sell for that much?"

On my youtube channel, I'm setting up a series debunking people who put up videos and guides that make ludicrous claims. I spend hours testing mine for accuracy and authority. Bring your doubt to somebody else.

  5. I ran this 10x (or whatever the hourly max is) on a 578 warlock and got 15 stacks of cloth (50g/stack), 2x Chelley's Staff of Dark Mending (800g/ea) and 1x Soul Blade (1.7k/ea). As for the greens and vendor trash, I received 360g after 83g repairs, which resulted from being too cocky.

Overall, about ~4.5k in half an hour's work, limited to this amount in 1 hour.

    1. Awesome, thank you so much. I'll be putting a video out on this soon, with a further 3+ hour test, and will include your results. I like to get to 30 drops, but it's so rough with these drop rates. Any tips you find for pulling as a lock? After clearing the middle guys, VertualExchange was able to just pull all 4 packs of the other guys at the same time. I tried...died.

    2. Did another 10 runs, 2.5 minutes per run, 1x Soul Blade, 1x Chelley's Staff of Dark Mending, and almost another 15 stacks of cloth.

While it isn't as advertised, at least based on Kil'Jaeden horde prices, it's not a horrible way of making quick gold. Only downside is diminishing returns on these items. Do too many and it'll drop prices on everything.

      Delete
    3. I'm doing the Marge Simpson scowl right now, I hope you know that. This is not the first time I've done this but these are the lowest results I've heard of. Warlords Alpha is out so I can't do more thorough testing right now, but you bumped this up on my list. Also, grats on getting the same items over and over, lol. RNG gods are smiting you with that.

I was curious which server you were on because while things are variable, 800g just seems a little too low. Almost worthy of a buyout. Eh. Maybe. I dunno. I'd have to look at the server history for it. But if you can move a soulblade at 1.7, go for it and /shakefist at whoever posted the other ones up that low.

      Delete
  6. The server I checked prices for was Kil'Jaeden horde side. While my lock is currently on Sargeras horde, I will probably be transferring to Kil'Jaeden soon and didn't think horde prices on Sargeras would be accurate and fair ;).

    The way I pull is:
Kill the first pack of 4.
Pull both big packs in the middle plus 2-3 of the side packs.
Kill remaining pack and stragglers after aoe.
    Kill last two mobs.
Each run takes me ~2.5 minutes.

I had to spec into Dark Bargain and GoSac with the Voidwalker CD to survive this but sometimes a healthstone (glyphed HoT) plus being quick with Ember Tap was enough to get it down. I have 850k hp without Soul Link and they drop me 30%+ hp at a time. Destro locks have such amazing survivability and heals when pulling aoe though, I wouldn't recommend pulling this much for other classes, even if you're decently geared.

I'm going to give this one more shot and post the results afterwards.

  8. Here we go:

30 runs, 1.5 hours (3 hrs including wait/logoff time) later:
    42 stacks of Embersilk
3x Chelley's Dark Staff of Mending
    3x Soul Blade
    1x Unheeded Warning
    1x Phase-Twister Leggings
1x Heaving Plates of Protection (got these on my last run)
    1kg vendor trash/greens after repairs - I started out at 6.1kg

I posted one of each of the epics up, and the Phase-Twister Leggings sold for 1k. Below is the screenshot of my final inventory with the items.

  9. Do these items actually sell? I will try this place tomorrow and come back with results!

  10. I tried yesterday. Got 2 epics trinkets for 5 runs and I didnt time it. Idk for the weapons but the trinkets are selling around 190g on my server and I only sold one within 12h. So I guess that the epic stuff profit of this run depends on the servers, and unfortunately most ppl on my server at lvl85 are going Pandaria and buy their adventurer lvl85 green stuff.

    1. Most of these items are sold and used for transmog rather than for use. Since trinkets and bracers are not really coveted, or shown for that matter, the prices are low.

  11. What a heap of rubbish, i cannot believe it...

    >The cheaper items like the trinkets sell for around 500
How is it then in 2011? Is weather ok?
Seriously 500g for Cata trinket in 2014? Is this supposed to be a joke?

    >and a boatload of Embersilk Cloth
Good, good, flood the already over-saturated market, so the price drops from 30g per stack to 15-20.
Not one of you "guide-making WoW gurus" has EVER mentioned supply and demand, you all make "estimates" in which you count in gathered maths in as pure profit.
It doesn't even occur to you that you can't sell hundreds of stacks or cloth/ore/hers/leather etc. each day for a very long time, even on "full" servers. Hence all your "estimates" aren't worth sh*t.

    >more expensive transmog items sell for 2500g on most servers because they're amazing and no one really goes out here much anymore

Sure "on most servers", stop this bs, please. Glorious set pieces are ~4.5k on my high pop server AH, they are there for months and nobody needs them. Obscure sh*t will sell for 5k, whom are you trying to deceive? Readers or yourself? Sure, you can put item up for any price and wait for an rich idiot to buy it, but it can take weeks if not months.

    >his would add an additional (est) 2,500 g to your total, bringing the value of this dungeon per hour up to 15,000g

With item prices pulled out of your ass?
Why, i can make an even better "epic gold-making guide".
"Lolz guise i found this purple item in a dungeon and i've seen a purple is worth 100k on ah, so you can make 1 gazillion in an hour! Ultimate gold making guide! SUBSCRIBE TO MY DEAD GOOD FOR NOTHING BLOG "

    >isit my YouTube channel or just subscribe.

    No sh*t...

Seriously, I'm sick and tired of these countless "guru gold-making strategies" , which apparently are being made by copy-paste method with the sole purpose of attracting attention to dead WoW blogs/sites with amount of actually valuable info is literally zero.

    1. "Lolz guise I'm a dick and don't actually use my brain, I just run my mouth" - Anon above. These are GUIDES, not surefire ways that you can 100% replicate because 1. obviously every server's economy is different, and 2. supply and demand ALWAYS changes market prices - this has and forever will be a fact of WoW. To start attacking guide makers thinking you know better shows nothing except what an arrogant jackass you are.

Consider this: sit on your ass in Shrine and do nothing. You will affect supply and demand conversely, never affect prices because you don't farm, and never raise prices because you don't buy anything, so you can therefore keep them nice and high for everyone else to profit off of.

On my dead horde side server, I sold Phase-Twister Leggings for 1k overnight, even though the price in this guide suggested <1k. I'm almost positive the prices posted are average prices across all US/EU servers (separately), that is, a combined total divided by the number of servers, since you don't seem to be that bright. If one server has that item listed for 10k, whether it sells or not, it will factor into the average. If it's listed for 1g and sells instantly, it will probably also factor in.

On the other server I checked, the prices the guide maker posted were similar to what were available on the AH - so what is this about pulling prices out of one's ass? They seem fairly accurate to me, and AGAIN, OBVIOUSLY prices vary from server to server. On my other medium pop server, the same items are probably listed right now at 300g.

If you are so sick of these guides, stop googling them up, moron, and since you're at this guide, you're probably failing hard at gold :).

      Delete
    2. Normally I would leave something like this off the comments, but with a guide saying you can make 10k+/hour I feel like these are valid questions and concerns that need to be addressed. The answers to which are actually why I make videos and guides so thank you for asking.

      BS Estimates:
I do not estimate. Any time you read a range of some gold value on my blog, it's because I've done at least a 3 hour test of that area, determined the best source to interpret the data, and have calculated a statistical range based on the standard deviation. (Ok ok, I'm sure this isn't true all the time, but that's the goal, because-like you-BSers annoy me and I know enough math to do things the right way).

Putting Items Up For Any Price:
I recommend people use the addons TradeSkillMaster and TheUndermineJournalGE. If you read my blog post on that, you would understand that I take sources and averages fairly seriously. For Ore, a high-volume/low-price item, you can't quote prices on a blog where all realms will read it using the same type of average that you would from the Glorious set, which sells for thousands and only sells once every couple weeks. Do you use the Realm Median, Realm Mean, Global Median, Global Mean, Market Value, Min Buyout, or some combination of the above? And do you get those numbers from Auctioneer, The UndermineJournal, or WoWUction? Each program/website calculates their 2-week trailing averages differently so you will be telling people different gold per hour numbers, and these can vary drastically. I use what I have found to be best for each type of item over years of selling. That is where I AM a gold guru; I know what source to use for what. Of course I'm still learning.

      Bloggers Not Trying:
The goal of my YouTube Channel is to raise the bar of the gold bloggers and gold youtubers out there. Watch my Blackrock Caverns video. It explains things pretty well. I remember watching a mining guide in Cata about the Twilight Highlands where the person did a 15 minute test. I remember thinking how unacceptable this was because that route is a 15-20 minute route. If you don't do at least 3-5 laps, how are you supposed to have any idea of the ore yield? The ore isn't there on the second lap because it respawns differently after you mine it once! To me, that was unethical.
So, my goal is to always test for 3 hours and do as much analysis as I'm capable of. (and share as much math/stats as I think y'all would care about). If you ever want to know the full math. I have a contact form. Feel free to email me and we can talk math.

I hope this let's you know that I am absolutely not joking or BSing with anything I say. I work very hard at researching my topics and put in hours of work and research into each post and video. Nothing is thrown together. I love what I do, being a reliable source of information, and helping as many people as possible make gold in WoW. Good luck out there.

  12. Hey there,
I decided to give this a go and give you my results. First up I am not a uber dps player,- very much an average player when it comes to dps (I usually heal).
In one hour I died 6 times, and only completed 3.25 runs. The junk, greens, consumables and greens minus my repairs netted 23 gold, 44 silver and 85 copper. The epics I got was 2x soul blade and 1x crossfire carbine. Soul blade are selling for 500 gold however there are several of them so indicating a poor demand for them. Crossfire Carbine is selling $2000 (and there is only one in ah). So IF am lucky I could potentially get $3000 all up for the three items. I got 6 stacks of embersilk and they are selling at 35 gold a stack and I got 9 individual (currently selling at 1gold at 55 silver each) so total amount $223.95 for embersilk. My potential income is a total of 3247 gold.
Please feel free (if you wish) to add me to battletag on Dreamtears#1949 for other experiments as I quite enjoy doing these things. Again average player so I do think my results may give balance to your results.

    1. Thanks for the run and sharing your results! Yah, looks like your market got flooded with soul blades. But you did 3-4 runs and got 3 epics? That's awesome.

Considering that mining, if you work hard is netting around 1700g per hour, I'd say well done!

  13. first of all : thank you ! even tho i think u took the price ranges WAY too far high, i still think this post is viable. i have also tested it, as a healer i had to take some one with me and did 2*10 runs of the first room trash.
the 10 first got NOTHING, that made me doubt this guide a little bit :)
the second 10 got 3*soul blade , 3* heaving plates of protection, 1 helm and 1 leggings, making it in theory around 20k gold. ofc in reality its hard to sell these items for high prices, but they still sell as they are very cool looking. thank you, i appreciate the post and the effort to test ur stuff out before.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Update - to my surprise i did manage to sell soul blades at around 2-3k , heaving plates at min 2,5k and max 5k, helm for 1.2k. overall around 20k gold from 2 runs, which is amazing! im glad i trusted it to try 2 "10 time" runs. was worth.

  15. Hi, 1 more thing - i have done a few runs in AQ20 and have found alot of value doing so (transmog boe selling - speaking). would love it if u test it out too. and also a good post about not only farming transmog but also selling it - will be nice.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'd love to do AQ20. I'm just hesitant that it will be "too profitable" to be realistic. One run takes about 30 minutes and I generally walk away with 10k in transmog. I'm honestly just nervous that, if I put in the work, I'd be compelled to say "look guys this is actually a 20k/hour raid." How about this, it's Alpha right now and I'm doing that grind, but I do need to get some inventory going on my main. I've got 5 or 6 90s, so I'll run each one through each week for the next three weeks, and we'll see what we get from those 15 tests. :)

    2. Great, im down with that, although i hope the post wont be too popular cause then item prices will drop :) dont forget the second part about SELLING the items...

  16. I dont know if this has been nerfed by Blizzard, but on sunday June 22nd 2014 I did 10 clears of the first room and got a grand total of 0 epics. So I'm doubting this still works.

Ow and you did not specify if you did this on 10 man or 25. Im guessing 10 man since I get aboslutely rocked on 25 man.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. lol, yah think there are 2 or 3 classes that can handle 25 man at this point. To answer your question though, no it hasn't been nerfed. You just got unlucky. If you read through some of the other comments another person got zero drops after 10 runs, then did another 10 and got 8 epics in the second round of runs that they sold for 20k (they even said they undersold one of the high priced items). Long story short. As a couple hundred people have tried this, there has been a little RNG where some people haven't gotten anything. Sorry you were unlucky. If you try it again and go another round or two without anything, letme know. But to my knowledge, this hasn't been nerfed.

  18. I've ran this several times, and depending on class, it can take a few pulls to figure out.

As for drops, five runs, two mail bracers and the leather helm, and just over a stack of Embersilk a run (never more than two).

Also items I found are selling for nothing ATM. There are almost a page of bracers posted up all for under 200g on the AH (lowest at 40g), and the helm has had three or four up every day for the past week hovering at 300-350g.

Personally, this place is not somewhere I'd recommend as it has too much variability.

Get good drops and / or drop rates, and play on a server with little competition but enough market to sell at the prices listed - great return.

Get poor drops and / or drop rates, or play on a server with a lot of competition and / or no market for these items - waste of time.

    YMMV

We've got a lot of new players and alts coming into the market with WoD and they'll want transmog as they get to level 100 and replace all their stuff, (and as current players switch specs because "QQ my class is nerfed").
