The Vendor Trash Gold Guide (20,000g/week from Grays)

Hey there, gold makers! Today I'm going to be sharing a little secret with you that I've had in my goldmaking routine for a while now, and have been using to bring in an extra 20,000g to 30,000g per week. I've had fun, but it's time to share the magic. Turns out, you can make gold, and a ton of it, just by selling vendor grays for ridiculous prices on the Auction House.
World of Warcraft Vendor Trash Gold Guide WoW Make Gold Stormwind
Farewell, Gnimo! We won't be needing you anymore.
Initially, I just put everything into a 1,000 gold group, and things sold. But then, either on a whim or out of curiosity, I started testing and came up with the price discrimination setup you see below. Price discrimination is where charge more for the same thing, but if someone can pay more and is willing to, you might as well let them, right? (Think Airplane tickets, some people pay $400 while some pay $199. Same flight).  I'm sure the specific numbers would vary depending on the server size, but the whole point of this is capitalizing on curiosity and accidental purchases.

Open world farming is awful for grays, so head to dungeons. If you're farming just for grays, then I only recommend doing 1 run of each of the following six instances, but if you're also going for cloth, mats, and transmog, then go ahead and do 3-5 of each of these, although be warned that multiple runs of six dungeons will take a while. Otherwise, it's pretty quick. The goal of this route is a shotgun approach; you're not going to get all of one kind, but you're going to get a few from each expansion's vendor list. (i.e. Most of the vendor greys from the Wrath of the Lich King have a "Frozen/Frigid/Frost XXX" theme)

Making Gold Gray Items WoW Warcraft TradeSkillMaster TSM 2.0 Accounting
Also, the Crochet Hat looks amazing if you're a fisherman.
Each of the following dungeons will require at least 40 free bag slots, so have room. To start head off to Deadmines located in Southern Westfall, then run Uldaman in northern Badlands, and then head over to Zul'Farrak which you can get to easiest from the Uldum portal. After you mail your ZF stuff in Gadgetzan, MAKE SURE to do the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj located in Silithus. One run through there will usually net about 20 unique vendor greys! Follow that up with Tempest Keep: Botanica out in eastern Netherstorm (it's the northern ship) and Halls of Lighning in Storm peaks.

I avoid Mist of Pandaria and Cata content just because the vendor loot there are things that people see or remember, and therefore recognize as trash, whereas some of this is less recognizable, and when you post it for 3,000g, has the same effect as things like the Ruby Shades, which sell regularly for 17,000g, despite being white items. It makes people wonder, "Is this something being taken out of the game? What the heck, I have 300k gold."

One last thought before I share my TradeSkillMaster Import lists. If you're a terrible person, you can set the Codex of Greater Heal and similar items at the same prices as the corresponding glyphs on your realm and unfortunate newbies will buy them. [Go to the Crafting tab of TSM, the nuts and bolts icon, click on materials, scroll down until you find Codex of Greater Heal, and then right click and enter in dbmarket(item:21284) ] made a decent chunk off this until my conscience got the better of me. Better to just post them for 1,000g as "Memories of Yesteryear's Patches." People still buy. (meh, probably still newbie mistakes)

TSM 2.0 Import Group Items
1. Vendor 1000 gold
This group is your run of the mill items. Wicked Claw, Troll Sweat, and Protective Pavise. Fun or good looking items, but nothing you would write home for. For all of these, keep a post cap of 1, a high minimum price 50% of each groups normal price, and have a maximum of about 50% over. So, for this group my setup is 595g min, 995g normal, 1595g max. It's still somewhat arbitrary, play around on your server's economy.
11384,11385,11391,11392,11394,11395,13824,1504,1506,1507,1520,18222,18223,18224,18512,19938,21222,21224,21225,21281,21284,21285,21287,21289,21297,21299,21302,21307,22525,25374,25375,25376,25377,25397,25399,25418,25421,25426,25428,33424,33426,36801,3779,3780,3784,3785,3793,3794,3800,3802,3804,3806,3950,39513,3962,3964,3966,3967,3968,3986,4017,4021,4022,4023,4093,4582,4784,4787,4867,5114,6293,7073,8146,8747,90792
2. Vendor 2000 gold
Here, you have the same general level of mediocrity as group 1, but these are either a little bit cooler looking, a little bit cooler sounding, or they're rarer/harder to get.
11404,13819,21226,2215,25380,25403,25404,3300,33368,33370,33379,33382,33383,33398,33400,33401,33402,33414,33415,33417,33422,33423,33425,33428,33429,33434,33436,3809,3811,39209,39210,39512,4025,43852
3. Vendor 3000 gold
I reserve this group for the best pieces - the quality junk that people will really go for, and even though the 2000 gold group is my largest, I get a higher percentage of sales from this group. This is mainly composed of items that would be great transmog gear if you could transmog grays. As such, they're mainly RP items. Things like the Red Defias Mask are fabulous sellers and I'll consistantly sell at least one of those a week. You can find it in Deadmines.
11386,11393,1495,1498,1513,1514,21223,25341,25345,25347,25348,25357,25360,25363,25391,25393,25400,25402,3782,3786,3787,3936,3938,3940,3941,4018,56035,67407,7997,8151,8749,8751,9242
That's all, good luck in your farming and let me know how you do!

Thanks for reading my little WoW blog! You can follow me on Twitter here and Twitch here. My YouTube channel is growing and has lots of great guides over here. I recommend that all goldmakers download the TSM Suite and the UndermineJournalGE addon for all goldmakers. You can read my setup guide if you'd like. Yep, this was the best April Fools Day trick I could muster. Funny thing is, you'll still make 20,000g-50,000g from transmog, rare items, and battle pets if you do this run that I "made up" for this April Fools day gag, because it's actually what I use for farming a large of diverse gear from multiple ranges. (I try and take care of my readers even when I play a joke on em) Thanks for reading and good luck! 4-2

Countdown to Patch 5.4, 14 DAYS: Sell-off Preparation

Evil Garrosh is coming, and so are the crazy markets associated with any new patch release, so every other day, I'll be bringing you something you can do to prepare so that you can either make money with Patch 5.4...or in the case of this post, prevent you from losing your shirt!

Garrosh, Patch 5.4, MMOChampion, MMO Champion Garrosh, Siege of Orgrimmar
Poor Garrosh...This is what happens when you eat Mentos and Diet Coke.

It's two weeks out and time to start selling off your ilvl 522 crafted epics and Haunting Spirits. These items, like Blacksmith's Haunted Steel Headguard, Leatherworker's Quillen Hide Helm, or Tailor's Falling Blossom Hood sell more slowly than the PvP gear because of the higher prices, but luckily, everyone is gearing up alts right now and is a little more willing to pay. I've been selling them in the 25k-35k range (lower for boots, of course) but remember, you're selling off inventory, here. Craft more if you want to but do so at your own risk because prices for these will fall considerably after the 10th. If you have any Blood Spirits left over, get rid of those as well, as they will continue to drop in value, although probably not by as much as Haunting Spirits.
If you have several Haunting Spirits, now is the time to sell them. Since TSM 2.0's release two weeks ago, I have sold 58 of them on my tiny little server...wait wait, let me log in...since TSM 2.0's release, I have sold 65 of them on my tiny little server. (Click here for my guide on how to initially set up TSM 2.0) People are hungry for the materials for the gear, even if they aren't buying out the 522 crafted markets.

Liquidating AND making a ton from it? Yes, please!

The Blacksmithing daily recipes in patch 5.4 give iLvl 553 legs and belts (well, the Leatherworking dailies and Tailoring dailies do, too, but I like Blacksmithing best...hush). BUT, this gear only uses trillium/windwool bolts/exotic leather as base materials, so the demand for spirits will fall. Counterpoint: Helm and Feet patterns have not been introduced, so craftable 522 gear will still be an upgrade for new toons dinging 90 who have the gold to buy them and don't want to grind rep/dungeons/dailies. My rebuttal though, is that since mat prices for the spirits will fall so much, the prices for the gear will fall, making it more cost effective to sell everything you can right now, and then craft any profitable 522s that arise in the future with materials purchased in 5.4 at 5.4 mat prices.

In short, drop your epic prices a smidge and start selling your expensive stuff. If it doesn't sell, discount it more. You don't want to get caught in late September having to sell a 522 helm for 8,000g that you crafted for 40,000g worth of mats. Likewise, look at the chart of blood spirits compared to haunting. Two weeks after release (Sept 24th), Haunting Spirit prices will likely drop to 1k. One month after patch release (Oct 10th), expect them to sell for 600g, and in two months (Nov 10th) expect them to have bottomed at 250g. I don't know about you, but I like getting 3k a pop for em right now. :)

Other News:
My YouTube channel is up and running, and we actually have a guide up now, too! It's completely unrelated to anything I'm talking about up above, but I had a lot of fun filming it, so here it is. Enjoy and hope you make some gold from it. So, if y'all have any requests for future videos (would you prefer addon guides? instance guides like this? PTR guides? profession walkthroughs? flipping tips?), drop me a message in the comments.

Using TSM 2.0: Basics, Sources, and Problems with AuctionDB

TradeSkillMaster 2.0 was just released to the public and if you aren't currently using it, you should be because it saves an absolutely absurd amount of time on auctioning. For current users, I have a slightly different take on it than most people on one particular point. In short, it's about time for me to put together a guide for my fans on how to set up auctioning with TradeSkillMaster, and go in depth about something a little closer to the SOURCE of my heart. Get it? Cause sources are the...alright, let's just...

If no one has ever answered the question "what is TSM?" for you, well in a nutshell, it's a rather complicated program to setup that, once you do so, allows you to queue, craft, and auction everything potentially profitable with (ideally) one button click each. Version 1 was amazing, but they just completely reworked and improved the program, flipping all of us on our heads. One of the biggest additions to TSM 2.0 is Operations. These are interchangeable sets of rules for the groups and subgroups that you set up (categories/groups have been replaced). While we're just going to be concerned with the Auctioning module in this post, operations are used for every module and are the foundation of 2.0. To set up a maximum price point in 1.X, you would type in either "50g" or "150% DBMarket" or "Max(20g, 100% Crafting)". DBMarket and Crafting are called sources and let you determine what system you're going to use to set any given price. To see a list of all available sources that TSM can understand, type into chat "/TSM sources" and you should see a list of things that you can put a XXX% in front of. Note: If you download Auctioneer, TSM_WoWUction, Auctionator, TheundermineJournalGE, or TheUndermineJournalRE, you will unlock additional sources not viewable when you first install TSM 2.0.

Prerequisites:
TSM Suite
TheUndermineJournalGE

For starters, let me just say that, if you walk away from reading this post with anything, let it be this: use "tujgemedian" for a majority of your selling, rather than DBMarket. There are caveats and rules to this but it's a good general rule to follow. Alright, so, what do I mean by that? TSM scans your auction house (btw, you can download the TSM app here, so you don't have to scan the AH it manually) and builds a pretty awesome and reliable price average. It's fantastic, but unfortunately, it only relies on your AH's data, which can still be skewed (low seen count, one seller posting the same thing over and over for too much, etc). With TUJ GE, it looks at every realm, every hour, and gives you various averages for data from the past two weeks for worldwide data; this is much more reliable data when you're talking about supply and demand on non-realm specific or time-dependent goods - a majority of what you will be selling. I am a fan of efficiency, and when you're trying to sell something, your post price is trying to mimic demand. The only demand information we have is from supply though: sellers (when demand rears its head, a buyer removes that item from the AH, and that datum goes away). In other words, I use TUJGE because I feel much more comfortable taking aggregated minimum market price and trying to interpret demand based on 1000 sellers, than based on the 3 people on my realm, but that's just me. I do recommend you follow my lead though.

Ok, enough overview and theory for now. Let's get into some guides for people new to TSM!

So, let's say you have some items in your bags that you consider Transmog worthy, and you want to put on the AH. Here's what you should do in ten easy steps:

Update 11/5/2014 With the revamp of TheUndermineJournal, TUJ GE is currently down, for an alternative that works just as well, download the Tradeskill master app, and substitute the following source/tag "Wowuctionregionmedian" where you see the TUJ source"

Auctioning Items: Creating Groups and Operations for Inventory

1) After opening TSM with "/tsm" Click Groups (the crystal tab at the top), and make a new group for whatever is in your bags, then [next slide]
2) "Create Auctioning Operation" for that group.
3) Give the operation a name. This is my "Catch-all Operation" so "Catch All" is a good name. I use Transmog Operation here.
4) Yep, add this to the group you just made. Isn't that a nice feature?
5) I like to ignore short duration auctions; after thirty minutes you'll be the cheapest, so there's no need to undercut those. Also check "ignore operations on characters." You don't want to sell a Haunted Steel Headguard on your main by accident before you equip it, just because you forgot to put your Main Toon on your Blacksmith operation ignore list (wow, what a specific example..../sadface).
6) Click on the Post tab. Change duration to whatever is comfortable. I've never found a situation where "stack size as cap" isn't useful; always check that. Keep undercut by 1c, (unless you're dealing with high priced items, then do 1s, no more).  Minimum price: 50% TUJGEMEDIAN, Normal price: 120% TUJGEMEDIAN, Maximum Price: 200% TUJGEMEDIAN, Post at Normal Price.
7) Click back on Groups->[the group you made]-Items. What you see is everything in your bags that isn't in a group so far. Click on everything you want in the group and hit add.
8) Click Module Operations/Options (3rd tab up top)->Auctioning, and the big button at the bottom. Make sure you don't have anything bound to Ctrl+mouse up/down, and that you have two free macro slots.
9) Go to the Auction House, click on the Auctioning tab, and click "Start Post Scan." [If errors came up, 1. you haven't downloaded the data from TUJGE for your realm. TUJ updates realms for manual download more often than they do for the curse download. 2.) it's a craftable that you either don't know how to make or is crafted from something soulbound like spirits of harmony that doesn't have a price on TUJ, 3.) it's something like a caged battle pet that can't be seen by TUJ, for this, you need to scroll down to the rest of the guide, geez, keep your shorts on!]
10) Press ctrl+scroll, and you should be good to go.

Now that we've done that, let's set up your professions.

Auctioning Items: Creating Groups and Operations for Professions

1) Open the profession, go ahead and click yes. This will create a Profession group, a subgroup for that specific profession, and furthur subgroups for Crafts and Materials, with all crafts for that profession in crafts and all materials used in that profession under materials.
2) You're done here. Open the main interface with /tsm.
3) Go to groups, click on professions, and assign your TSM Catch All group, whatever you named it.
...annnd, wait, that's it?

Yep! That's actually it...well, almost. But, that's how powerful TradeSkillMaster is; set it up once and you just swap in the operations. But, with professions, the whole goal is to click the restock button to queue up profitable crafts, and here is where TheUndermineJournalGE falls short. Take Alchemy, for example. If I want to see if my Transmute: Eternal Earth to Air is profitable today, I don't care at all about global market prices. I want to know how cheaply I can buy Earth for on my realm's AH. The moral? When you're dealing with Crafting operations, as opposed to Auctioning operations, use realm specific Sources like "AucMinBuyout," "DBMinBuyout," "WoWUctionMarket," or "matPrice."  I recommend the following price catch all pricing method for crafting: "min(100g, 120% DBMinBuyout, 120% matprice, 120% tujgemedian)" Feel free to adjust the numbers lowers or higher to your needs. Lowering it to "min(10g, 100% DBMinBuyout, 100% matprice, 100% tujgemedian)" Once you do this, open up your crafting profession again and click the "restock selected groups. For this step, it's really important to play around with it on each profession, and get comfortable with the sources. Do a little research. What you choose to craft is going to play a huge role on your profitability, and since you're automating the threshold of what you're crafting, it makes it that much more important to get it right the first time.

As a final thought, it may sound silly, but I'm a big fan of deleting all your groups and operations every six months or a year and starting fresh. You really learn a lot about how you function and what you really want out of your program, and end up with a lot more efficient grouping when you redo everything.

Hope this was useful to everyone in getting up and running. If you haven't downloaded it yet, stop procrastinating and do it now. TSM 2 is amazing! You can follow me on Twitter here, YouTube here, and Facebook here. Until next time remember that the best way to make gold in WoW is to

Explaining Inscription Arbitrage (Glypher to 80!)

I think I can officially say that I'm an altoholic now. Funny thing is, I've only ever considered myself to have had one toon, my warrior. I leveled my bear when I found out about the JC/Enchanting shuffle, and he got raid geared somehow. And today, got my priest to 80 finally after discovering inscription arbitrage a while back. But I officially have 3 toons over 80! :)

world of warcraft sexy draenei transmog
C'mon...she's a Draenei, how was I supposed to xmog her?

Oh what was that, you ask? What is inscription arbitrage?

Well, arbitrage is just a fancy word for taking money and making more money with zero risk. Buying low and selling high on the AH (or the stock market) is not arbitrage because there is risk involved: prices can fall, people might not buy, or you might repost so many times that posting fees are more than your profit. However, an example of arbitrage is finding something on the AH that vendors for more that you could buy it for. In short, it means absolutely zero-risk profit, however minimal that profit is. Auctioneer has a search function for this (oddly it's not the one titled "Arbitrage;" that tool is for cross-faction trading, which is not true arbitrage. It's the "Vendor" one.) This is also a great way to get start-up cash for a fresh toon on a new server.
World of Warcraft auctioneer arbitrage search
Arbitrage at its purest. Immaculate Scepter: Bid-23g. Vendor-26g.

The Inscription arbitrage, the one I leveled my priest for, is pretty awesome, has been around since 5.0 launch day, and in essence, sets a price floor on the price of herbs. It keeps them in check and ensures that herbalism is always a profitable profession. It's not new, but it's a great tool if you aren't aware of it.

The way it works: any time herb prices drop below 1g 50s per herb, inscriptionists can mill the herbs, turn them into inks, and then craft any of the blue shoulder enchants. The cool thing is that rather than auctioning them, you vendor them since their vendor price is so high. You'll come out making a little bit or a decent amount more than you started with, depending on whether you're in a level 25 guild or not.
Note: As of 5.3 this strategy no longer works. Shoulder enchants vendor price have been reduced from 18g to 1.8g. Whamp whamp.
Best thing is that you don't have to deal with the hassel of auctioning, so it's immediate profit. The gravy, or arguably the main course, is that you'll have several stacks of Starlight ink out of the deal. As you can tell from the link, these sell for between 50g and 150g each, so a stack is about 1000-3000g. Wowhead claims that the milling yield for misty pigment is a 25% chance at between 1-3 (24%, 0.6%, 0.6%, respectively). In short, blah blah blah "expect about 1 Starlight ink per stack you buy."
World of Warcraft Dorctor Who Shh
Shh. get on with it.

So, in order to do this, you need to have an inscriptionist at lvl 80 with inscription at lvl 540.

My results:
Over the course of my leveling, I've scanned the AH while waiting on Tank queues and was able to buy 150 stacks of green tea leaves at between 1.5g and 2.0g. I use TradeSkillMaster Destroyer, with even stacks unchecked, it's a great search tool that puts all the herbs in one place. While, I had some rain poppy and other miscellaneous herbs, really, the green tea was exactly 150 stacks: 3000 herbs on the button. How perfect was that for testing?!

I did this in two milling sessions, and must have crafted something that required starlight ink out of boredom unfortunately, because the numbers there just seem off, but in all, the test was a success. She milled 107 misty pigments, which I split and posted half as ink and half as pigments, for a total of about 7500g. She also crafted 248 shoulder enchants, which vendored for 4,600g.

Revenue
     Pigment     7383g
     Enchant     4649g
     Total                   12032g
Cost         (150x40g)
                                (6000g)
Profit                        6032g

ROI= 101%

There's a really interesting lesson here though that I haven't read anywhere else. If I want to do this long term, and assuming I can find buyers/uses for starlight ink, I am willing to pay much much more than 1.5 for herbs. Granted, it's goes out of the realm or classic arbitrage beyond that price point, but call me a greedy risk taker. In fact, from the ROI above we know that, combined with the cost assumption that I paid 2g/herb (that's the "150x40g" thing), I'm willing to pay 100% more than that, or 4g per herb, which, although ridiculous sounding for green tea leaves makes sense when you consider the idea that, with this process, every stack of herbs gives you one free starlight ink. In short, the question everyone should be asking is, "how much more would I pay for a stack of herbs if every stack gives me a free rare Ink?"

Anyways, hope this helps and gives perspective, and when looking at my numbers, please remember that my pigment/rare ink numbers were about 50% less than what they should have been, for whatever reason. i.e. I was expecting an ROI of about 160%.

Don't level at 3AM. Your scribe eats your ink.

Lesson Learned

So, I think I hit it too hard last week. I mean, didn't do too much out of the ordinary, but with the blog taking off, I guess I wanted to show off for you guys and show that I knew what I was talking about. You know, get my bankroll up and all that jazz. Granted, I did that, so my bank toon is happy, but honestly, I'm just whooped.
Son of Animus World of Warcraft WoW Glyph Posting Toon
All that Bubbling Anima makes her sleepy.
In the past week, I kept things pretty normal, but added an extra cancel/rescan during the day, which is against my whole "diversify" mantra. Rather than craft once every day or two, I crafted once or twice a day. While that's probably normal for some moguls out there, I'm not used to it. And honestly, it got me thinking about doing a mass crafting session of the pvp goods during the weekends. You know, "make 5 of each of the contenders sets." Something along those lines. So I can just "Set it and Forget it."

Ron Popeil 3 Easy Payments Set it and forget it
Don't you toy with me Ron Popeil!
In other news, some friends over at Stormspire recommended some other blacksmith transmog craftables so I bought about 30k of mob drop recipes off the AH (Don't worry, they were all good deals! I checked!) So, hopefully that'll increase income in the near future. One problem I've run into though is finding a way to find and store the huge amount of new mats required for the transmog items. With current gear, crafting is simple; get GIB and Trillium, and find an anvil. With transmog crafting, once you load your queue, you're presented with 80 billion different mats. It's very profitable, and I've already broken even with a majority of the items still on the AH, but crafting has been a pain. It'll take a little doing and some time in Excel but a dealfinding list should do the trick. That way, any time I there are mats on the AH, I'll be able to snatch them up. Not 100% sure how best to prepare for future crafts though, but, experience will tell. I'll let you know as I go. Until then, keep up the routine and remember to

Beginner's Guide to Blacksmithing in Patch 5.2

World of Warcraft Beginners Guide to Blacksmithing Tradeskillmaster TSM
Pardon the cheesy banner, but I'm still new at the art side of this and I thought it was funny. Hush. :P Ok, so, today on Twitter I received this message from @JamesStorrie:
I just levelled bs and engineering can you point me in the right direction on how to make gold with these thanks
Well as a matter of fact, James, yes. Yes I can. In a nutshell, with any crafting profession, get all the current patterns, craft everything profitable that you can afford the mats for, and then post them. I know blacksmithing so I'll go through that,  but for engineering talk to @NotQuiteExalted, @ssmith0911, or @powerwordgold. Doing this without addons can take hours though, and it's in learning how to operate the addons where the specific "how to" comes in. So, without further ado, here are the prerequisite addons. Go to Curse.com to download these (if you're new to addons, they're virus free, and you don't need to subscribe or pay to download them).

ADDONS
Tradeskillmaster TSM Banner
Oh, TSM! How did I live without you?
TradeSkillMaster - This automates and simplifies EVERYTHING that has to do with crafting. Huge round of applause to Sapu and his team for putting this together. Get the whole suite: Accounting, Additions, AuctionDB, Auctioning, Crafting, Mailing Etc.
The Undermine Journal GE - This show's you the global median and mean price for any item on the auction house. It does a bunch of other stuff to, but it essentially takes away the need to search the auction house, and allows for automated price efficiency (if prices worldwide go up, the prices for your posts will too). It also integrates with TSM. (Optionally, there is a Realm Edition, RE, on theunderminejournal.com that is useful for mat prices, as mat prices as more stable globally than locally)
Auctioneer - I use this less than I used to now that I utilize TSM more fully, but it has it's moments and is an overall improvement over the standard Auction House UI.
MogIt - This shows you an image of any item. In our case, it's great for considering whether or not to craft transmog items.
Postal - Makes looting your mailbox a lot easier and faster. Trust me, it's worth it.

Cullen Hammerbrow World of warcraft
Cullen and I go way back.
PATTERNS
1. If you haven't already, learn all the basic patterns from the normal trainer.
2. Browse Cullen Hammerbrow's (righteous Alliance) or Jorunga Stonehoof's (filthy Horde) goods. They sell 450 pvp and 463 pve patterns for 1 Spirit of Harmony each. Even with all the gear out there, these still sell pretty steadily as people get bored and level alts. Grind some Spirits and buy these patterns. I get between 2 and 10k profit a week from these; they pay for my repair bills.
3. Go kill Itoka. He drops a Strange Metal Ingot. In short, this opens up the 5.2 craftables: pvp blues and progressively awesome weapons. Every day, you craft one Lightning Steel out of 10 Ghost Iron Bars, and in doing so, learn a new recipe, similar to alchemy or inscription. Make sure you log on and craft your Lightning Steel every day, even if you don't plan on playing that day. These new recipes are selling like hotcakes, hotcakes that sell very very quickly.
4. Optionally, the Klaxxi start selling patterns at Honored that you can buy for 20 Kyparite. The 476 weapons take 5-8 Spirits of Harmony per craft and are a waste of Spirits in my opinion. But hey, they can still net you 2k-5k each, and are worth at least learning.

MATERIALS
1. Lots of Ghost Iron Bars. 5-15 stacks a day. Mine them if you want to, but buying off the AH is fine. I generally go on mining splurges once a month and have a decent stock at all times.
2. Trillium Bars. Find a Transmute Master guildie and transmute ghost iron bars into trillium bars. AH prices for trillium can be volatile and you might have days where you need a couple stacks.
3. Living Steel. If you read yesterday's "Week in Review" post, you know that Living Steel is about to get crazy. I recommend setting a max that you'll pay for them on the AH and buying any you find under that. Or find a transmute friend who doesn't mind giving you their daily CD.
4. Lightning Steel. This is BoP, so you only get the one's you craft, and you only get one per day.
5. Spirits of Harmony. Spirits are an art form in and of themselves, but are key to Blacksmithing so I'll put a few links and only spend a paragraph on them.

SPIRIT FARMING
When you first finish following this guide, you will probably find that you don't have enough spirits of harmony.
99 Spirits needed. Son of a...
First things first, do your dailies, and always loot everything  But for strict SoH farming, there are a couple good spots. If you have great burst AoE, I recommend the Dread Scar, in Dread Wastes; just run up and down grabbing all the warrior packs. You'll get greens and gold and about 20% more spirits from my testing than turtles, mainly due to CDs resetting during travel time. If you're a multi-dotter, farm turtles in one of two spots: the lake in Valley of the Four Winds that is located just west of the Grassy Cline flight path, or better but harder, the Northeast corner of Windward Isle in Jade Forest. For turtles, dot everything and let them die as they run to you. In addition to spirits, turtles allow you to loot the meat, bundle them into groceries for Replenishing the Pantry, and turn them into Black Pepper or Soy Sauce from Nam IronPaw, netting a very decent bonus profit. Depending on your dps, these three spots should bring in between 10 and 25 Spirits an hour. Any more than that generally gets hotfixed (RIP Zhu's Watch, you will be missed).

If you're SoH farming, your screen should look like this, as often as possible.

Alright, you have your profession leveled  your addons downloaded, and you know where to get materials from. How again do you make money with Blacksmithing? Here's the process.

SETTING UP TSM INVENTORY
First we setup TradesSkillMaster inventory settings.
Step 1. Open TSM with "/tsm"
Step 2. Modules are located as tabs at the top. Click Crafting. Make sure "Enable new Tradeskills" is checked.
Step 3. Click the subtab "Price/Inventory Settings." This tab determins what will be profitable. The drop downs are important but specific to your setup, so read the tooltips and fill them out accordingly. I get mat prices from AuctionDB, craft prices from AuctionDB, secondary price source as TUJ GE Market Median, Use lower of two, and have a 5% profit deduction. Make sure you have "Include items on the AH checked." Otherwise you will double craft your heart out.
Step 4: Click the Auction Group Module tab at the top. It looks like a coin. Click "Categories/Groups" on the left and then the subtab "Create Category/Group."
Step 5: Create a new Category, NOT A GROUP, called Blacksmithing. Click Okay.
Step 5: Close TSM when you're done.

SETTING UP TSM CRAFTING QUEUES
Next we set up the TSM crafting queues. This can be tricky so I'll use screenshots, but what it does is pretty cool. You click one button, and from what you know how to craft, it determines what is profitable, based on the current realm prices and global prices. It then queues up those items so that you can click click click a different button and craft them one after another. If you don't have the materials, you go to the auction house and click "Crafting Mats"->"Search" and then just spam buyout until you're done. It automatically knows when you've bought enough. For BS, crafting mats is simple but even for tricky things like inscription where you mill herbs for ink, TSM automates everything and does the calculations for you. So, here's how you set up all this really neat time-saving stuff!
Step 1: Open TSM with "/tsm"
Step 2: Open the Blacksmithing tab at the bottom. It has a picture of an anvil.
Step 3: Click on the Green Materials section on the left. Scroll down until you see "Spirits of Harmony." These are Soulbound, so they don't have an AH value. They can be traded for two Golden Lotuses though, so we'll equate them to that. Check "Override Price Source" and "Multiple of Other Item." In "Other Item" type 72238, and click Okay. For "Price Multiplier" type 2.
Should look like this.
Step 4: Now click on the Green Options section on the left. If you don't want to craft any low level stuff or transmog (for starters, stick to current gear), check "place lower limit on ilvl" and set it at "450." Check "Override Max Restock Quantity" and set it to 1. Override minimum profit, but set that to whatever you feel comfortable with.
Should look like this.
Step 5: We're going to set up the actual queue's now. This will create both the crafting queue and the auctioning group for the item, so that both actions are automated. Go through each white group on the left "Armor-chest, Armor-feet, etc." and do each of the following steps. Start off by clicking on Armor-chest.
Step 6: Scroll through the recipes and make sure each of the ones you want to craft have a check mark next to them.
Step 7: Click "Create Auction Groups." Category to put groups in should be "Blacksmithing" that we created earlier. How to add crafts should be "All in individual groups." The option "Groups to add crafts to" should be blank, and "Include Crafts Already in a Group" should be left unchecked. However, check the box for "Only include Enabled Crafts." This setups is less organized than some, but it allows for pricing to be automated by the market. In general, the less you have to think about posting, the better.
Step 8: Ensure that your chat window displays "Added XX crafted items to XX individual groups." (The XXs are the number of recipes added) If the words are any different, you clicked something different and TSM isn't going to be happy. Delete those groups and start that armor section again.
Step 9: Repeat Steps 5-8 for each Armor section that you can craft.
Step 10: Whenever you learn a new recipe in the future, you need to go back in and repeat steps 5-8 for that item.

Alright, first off, CONGRATULATIONS! The majority of the work is done. Now to actually craft and make some gold.
Open up your blacksmithing; you'll notice a new tab at the top that opens up the TSM Crafting interface. At first, there shouldn't be much to look at, but based on Step 4 from "Setting up TSM Crafting Queues" the big "Restock Queue" button does something magical. Click it! Tah Dah! You should now see a nice sized list of things to craft. If it's too much, just expand "All" and right click anything you don't want to craft.
Drakefist Hammer? Not today, son. Not today.

The list in the bottom right are the mats needed for everything in the crafting list. If you have everything, great, if not, also great! Go to your favorite Auction House and you'll find that with TSM there's a new tab at the bottom. In the TSM tab, click the word "Crafting Mats," make sure Blacksmithing selected, and hit search. Provided you have enough gold, you should be able to go though spamming the buyout button until it finishes. Loot your mailbox and Bam! You have all your mats. (For seasoned TSM veterans, sorry for the thoroughness of this, but c'mon, remember back before when you had to do all this manually? It's a really cool addon.) Finally just head on over to an anvil, and reopen the blacksmithing queue. At this poing, you should be able to stand at the anvil and just click "Craft Next" to your heart's content.

Now, before we post all your newly-minted goodies, there's one more round of one-time only settings to go through.

SETTING UP TSM AUCTIONING GROUPS
When we were setting up the inventory, we navigated over to auctioning groups to get the Blacksmith Category made. It was out of order, but I'm a rebel. At least you know how to get there. "/tsm" -> "Auctioning Groups/Options." Well, you can play around with general posting options later, but we'll do options specific to Blacksmithing for now.
Step 1: Click on the dark green Blacksmithing Category on the left, and click the Category Overrides subtab.
Step 2: General Settings- You can cancel your auctions in bulk by scanning the competitors auctions. Generally, standard settings are fine for this, but you can choose to ingore shorter or longer auction times if that suites you.
Step 3: Post Settings- You want the auctions to be up in stacks of 1, for as short of time as you can afford to play for. So if you're online all day every day, set the duration to 12 hours. However, if you only play 2 times a week, set it to 48 hours so it's at least up for as long as possible. Bid percent should generally be 100% of post price. This isn't ebay.
Step 4: Threshold- This is very debateable, but here's my take. As long as you're making a profit, you're fine, so I like so set it as a % of crafting cost. When it falls below this number it goes to "Advanced Price Settings" which I recommend be set to "Post at Fallback."
Step 5: Fallback- This is where it posts when you're, for all intents and purposes, the only one in the market. Also debatable, but I use either a high percentage 150%-300% of TUJ GE market median, or a decent percentage 100%-200% of TUJ GE market mean, depending on volatility.

SUPER SECRET BONUS STEP
Go to "Auction Groups/Options"->"Options" (the green word on the left), and scroll down. See that "create macro and bind scroll wheel?" Do it.

POSTING
Now to make your gold from all the sweet loot in your bags. Head to the AH, click the TSM tab, and click "Post Auctions." (If there are any errors, ignore them for now). Let it scan all the items in your bags, then hold the control key down, and scroll your mouse wheel up and down and viola! You're done!  The cool thing is, the next day, all you have to do, is loot the gold from your mailbox, hit restock queue, buy some mats, craft next, and scroll your mouse wheel again. All the settings are a one time thing. Hectic at first. But Easy. Peasy. Done.

I know this was a lot to read, but there's a lot of tiddly little stuff to do at first to make money with Blacksmithing in World of Warcraft. Just remember, the key to making gold in the WoW, with or without a billion steps and settings, is just to
Search. Craft. Post.
Every Day.
